Narrative:
While on the ground we were given our IFR clearance. It was the cleveland 7 departure then 'as filed'. We were filed from cleveland direct to fails intersection then V-188...etc. After takeoff, as soon as we got the gear up, we were handed to departure. The first officer was PF. I was working the radios and looking out for traffic. I contacted departure and reported out of 800'. The departure controller came right back with this, 'climb and maintain 11000', turn to 030 degree and intercept V-522 to fails intersection.' it was all I could do to just read back the clearance. As I read this back I was initially thinking this was our 'cleared as filed' clearance. After we rolled out on the 030 degree heading. I then realized we were not cleared direct to fails intersection but were supposed to intercept an arwy that we were not familiar with nor set up to intercept. Before I could question departure control, they handed us to cleveland clearance. They said they would give us direct to a fix along our flight plan after climbing through 11000', which they did. However, between 4000' and 11000' we were never able to get established on V-522. I needed to be looking for traffic here not scrambling to find an arwy which we were not set up for.

Title: ACR MLG TRACK HEADING DEVIATION NON ADHERENCE TO SID OUT OF CLE.
Narrative: WHILE ON THE GND WE WERE GIVEN OUR IFR CLRNC. IT WAS THE CLEVELAND 7 DEP THEN 'AS FILED'. WE WERE FILED FROM CLEVELAND DIRECT TO FAILS INTXN THEN V-188...ETC. AFTER TKOF, AS SOON AS WE GOT THE GEAR UP, WE WERE HANDED TO DEP. THE F/O WAS PF. I WAS WORKING THE RADIOS AND LOOKING OUT FOR TFC. I CONTACTED DEP AND RPTED OUT OF 800'. THE DEP CTLR CAME RIGHT BACK WITH THIS, 'CLB AND MAINTAIN 11000', TURN TO 030 DEG AND INTERCEPT V-522 TO FAILS INTXN.' IT WAS ALL I COULD DO TO JUST READ BACK THE CLRNC. AS I READ THIS BACK I WAS INITIALLY THINKING THIS WAS OUR 'CLRED AS FILED' CLRNC. AFTER WE ROLLED OUT ON THE 030 DEG HDG. I THEN REALIZED WE WERE NOT CLRED DIRECT TO FAILS INTXN BUT WERE SUPPOSED TO INTERCEPT AN ARWY THAT WE WERE NOT FAMILIAR WITH NOR SET UP TO INTERCEPT. BEFORE I COULD QUESTION DEP CTL, THEY HANDED US TO CLEVELAND CLRNC. THEY SAID THEY WOULD GIVE US DIRECT TO A FIX ALONG OUR FLT PLAN AFTER CLBING THROUGH 11000', WHICH THEY DID. HOWEVER, BTWN 4000' AND 11000' WE WERE NEVER ABLE TO GET ESTABLISHED ON V-522. I NEEDED TO BE LOOKING FOR TFC HERE NOT SCRAMBLING TO FIND AN ARWY WHICH WE WERE NOT SET UP FOR.
