During initial climb above 5;000 feet. MSL and 250 KIAS experienced number 1 engine fire light and associated warning tones. Reduced throttle 1 to idle and light went out. We completed engine fire severe/severe damage checklist and [advised ATC] and returned to [departure airport] landing xxr.

Title: MD11 flight crew reported that during climb a Level 3 ENG1 FIRE alert sounded along with aural warnings causing them to return to their departure airport.
Narrative: During initial climb above 5;000 feet. MSL and 250 KIAS experienced Number 1 Engine Fire Light and associated warning tones. Reduced Throttle 1 to idle and light went out.
