Narrative:
Departure control issued a left climbing turn to 10000'. I acknowledged by saying back air carrier X cleared to 10000'. Shortly afterwards, the controller issued a traffic advisory for aircraft Y descending. We said tally ho in response to seeing aircraft Y. I watched aircraft Y descend below us. The controller then excitedly asked us if we had not heard our clearance to stop our climb at 6000'. I responded that we were not given any restriction to the clearance limit of 10000', which we had received and acknowledged.

Narrative: DEP CTL ISSUED A L CLBING TURN TO 10000'. I ACKNOWLEDGED BY SAYING BACK ACR X CLRED TO 10000'. SHORTLY AFTERWARDS, THE CTLR ISSUED A TFC ADVISORY FOR ACFT Y DSNDING. WE SAID TALLY HO IN RESPONSE TO SEEING ACFT Y. I WATCHED ACFT Y DSND BELOW US. THE CTLR THEN EXCITEDLY ASKED US IF WE HAD NOT HEARD OUR CLRNC TO STOP OUR CLB AT 6000'. I RESPONDED THAT WE WERE NOT GIVEN ANY RESTRICTION TO THE CLRNC LIMIT OF 10000', WHICH WE HAD RECEIVED AND ACKNOWLEDGED.
