Narrative:

On landing roll on runway 36L, the tower advised us to clear on E6 or E8. We missed E6 and as we approached E8, it wasn't clear whether the sign was pointing to the forward high speed or the reverse high speed. I was going too fast to warrant a peek at my taxi diagram, but my copilot as well as the jump seat rider were sure that E8 was the reverse high speed. (By the way, the jump seat rider was an experience senior captain with our airline.) as it turns out, I followed the advice of my copilot and jump seat rider and it turned ot to be the wrong taxiway. The controller tower asked me to call them, and they suggested that I familiarize myself more thoroughly with the txwys. They were very nice about it. Clt tower takes an educational, rather than a violation approach. I was very appreciative of their attitude.

Narrative: ON LNDG ROLL ON RWY 36L, THE TWR ADVISED US TO CLR ON E6 OR E8. WE MISSED E6 AND AS WE APCHED E8, IT WASN'T CLR WHETHER THE SIGN WAS POINTING TO THE FORWARD HIGH SPD OR THE REVERSE HIGH SPD. I WAS GOING TOO FAST TO WARRANT A PEEK AT MY TAXI DIAGRAM, BUT MY COPLT AS WELL AS THE JUMP SEAT RIDER WERE SURE THAT E8 WAS THE REVERSE HIGH SPD. (BY THE WAY, THE JUMP SEAT RIDER WAS AN EXPERIENCE SENIOR CAPT WITH OUR AIRLINE.) AS IT TURNS OUT, I FOLLOWED THE ADVICE OF MY COPLT AND JUMP SEAT RIDER AND IT TURNED OT TO BE THE WRONG TXWY.
