Narrative:

While working the radar west position at alb approach under heavy traffic conditions I issued to an small transport an altitude clearance to 12000', when I meant to issue 10000'. Requested altitude on the strip was 12000', and I must have read that on the strip and inadvertently gave it to the pilot. ZBW (canan sector) observed the aircraft climbing out of 10000' and called it to my attention. No other aircraft were involved. I was totally in error in issuing 12000' to the aircraft.
