Narrative:
We were departing phx airport. I was the copilot flying in the left seat. We were parked next to runway 8L and my captain who had been to phx before said to expect runway 8L for departure. We were given a drake 3 departure, I glanced at the SID and saw runway heading, below 3 until 4 DME and after 1 DME 030 degree on the heading. When we called ground, they gave us an 8R runway. So because I was new to the phx airport I concentrated on taxiing to runway 8R and had the captain go over the runway 8R SID. On line up I read back to the captain (who had the SID) 070 degree on the heading, cross 4 DME 030 degree on the heading. After takeoff everything went fine. We xed the 330 degree right and the captain said turn left to intercept the 330 degree right which I did. Departure said stop our turn at 340 degree for traffic and read our SID. We were supposed to stay on the 030 degree heading until vectored to the 330 degree right. The next time when I am at a new airport I am going to read completely the SID and not rely on the other pilot and if I know ahead of time I am going to make a xerox copy of the SID so I will have a copy also.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: CPR LTT TRACK HEADING DEVIATION FLY A SID OUT OF PHX RWY 8R. STARTED THE RWY 8L SID.
Narrative: WE WERE DEPARTING PHX ARPT. I WAS THE COPLT FLYING IN THE L SEAT. WE WERE PARKED NEXT TO RWY 8L AND MY CAPT WHO HAD BEEN TO PHX BEFORE SAID TO EXPECT RWY 8L FOR DEP. WE WERE GIVEN A DRAKE 3 DEP, I GLANCED AT THE SID AND SAW RWY HDG, BELOW 3 UNTIL 4 DME AND AFTER 1 DME 030 DEG ON THE HDG. WHEN WE CALLED GND, THEY GAVE US AN 8R RWY. SO BECAUSE I WAS NEW TO THE PHX ARPT I CONCENTRATED ON TAXIING TO RWY 8R AND HAD THE CAPT GO OVER THE RWY 8R SID. ON LINE UP I READ BACK TO THE CAPT (WHO HAD THE SID) 070 DEG ON THE HDG, CROSS 4 DME 030 DEG ON THE HDG. AFTER TKOF EVERYTHING WENT FINE. WE XED THE 330 DEG R AND THE CAPT SAID TURN L TO INTERCEPT THE 330 DEG R WHICH I DID. DEP SAID STOP OUR TURN AT 340 DEG FOR TFC AND READ OUR SID. WE WERE SUPPOSED TO STAY ON THE 030 DEG HDG UNTIL VECTORED TO THE 330 DEG R. THE NEXT TIME WHEN I AM AT A NEW ARPT I AM GOING TO READ COMPLETELY THE SID AND NOT RELY ON THE OTHER PLT AND IF I KNOW AHEAD OF TIME I AM GOING TO MAKE A XEROX COPY OF THE SID SO I WILL HAVE A COPY ALSO.
