Narrative:
We were told to expect runway 27 at mem. Flying a heading of about 180 at 4000' MSL we were told to turn left to 090 degree and descend to 2000' MSL and expedite through 3000' MSL. Next we received a report from the controller of traffic at 10 O'clock. We looked and didn't see the traffic. Before we had completed our turn to 90 degree the controller came back on and told us to turn right to 270 degree. As soon as we started our turn back to west the mdt flew over us westbound in a climbing turn. Apparently the mdt was on a different frequency. Upon talking to the mdt crew on the ground it sounded like they received almost identical instructions prior to the occurrence. They were on a different frequency talking to a different controller.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: RADAR ALT SEPARATION WAS LOST BETWEEN AN ACFT BEING VECTORED TO RWY 27 AND ANOTHER ACFT BEING CTLED BY ANOTHER CTLR.
Narrative: WE WERE TOLD TO EXPECT RWY 27 AT MEM. FLYING A HDG OF ABOUT 180 AT 4000' MSL WE WERE TOLD TO TURN L TO 090 DEG AND DSND TO 2000' MSL AND EXPEDITE THROUGH 3000' MSL. NEXT WE RECEIVED A RPT FROM THE CTLR OF TFC AT 10 O'CLOCK. WE LOOKED AND DIDN'T SEE THE TFC. BEFORE WE HAD COMPLETED OUR TURN TO 90 DEG THE CTLR CAME BACK ON AND TOLD US TO TURN R TO 270 DEG. AS SOON AS WE STARTED OUR TURN BACK TO W THE MDT FLEW OVER US WBND IN A CLBING TURN. APPARENTLY THE MDT WAS ON A DIFFERENT FREQ. UPON TALKING TO THE MDT CREW ON THE GND IT SOUNDED LIKE THEY RECEIVED ALMOST IDENTICAL INSTRUCTIONS PRIOR TO THE OCCURRENCE. THEY WERE ON A DIFFERENT FREQ TALKING TO A DIFFERENT CTLR.
