Narrative:
On climb out failed to level off at 14000' assigned. Crew distracted due to malfunctioning flight director. Altitude alert tone not heard as it is routed through cockpit speaker and vol was accidentally set too low.

Title: MLT ALT DEVIATION OVERSHOT DURING CLIMB RESULTING IN LOSS OF SEPARATION WITH UNK ACFT.
Narrative: ON CLBOUT FAILED TO LEVEL OFF AT 14000' ASSIGNED. CREW DISTRACTED DUE TO MALFUNCTIONING FLT DIRECTOR. ALT ALERT TONE NOT HEARD AS IT IS ROUTED THROUGH COCKPIT SPEAKER AND VOL WAS ACCIDENTALLY SET TOO LOW.
