Narrative:
I rented a plane at hpn and flew to N69. I intended to park plane overnight since I live in stormville and planned to leave early the next morning for a trip to hto. En route from hpn to N69 (approximately 15 mins flying time) with my 14 yr old son, I began hearing a light rapping noise which seemed to come from the engine compartment. Since I was within 10 mi from N69 I continued on course while I tried to reassure my nervous son that we would make it west/O a problem. Upon reaching stormville we entered the traffic pattern and announced our intentions to land. On final approach I noticed an 'X' on the runway and did not land, but did a go around. I entered the pattern again and tried contacting unicom but received no response. The engine noise continued and my son was terrorized at this point. I continued to circle the airport while comforting my son and continuing to try to contact unicom. I entered the traffic pattern again and checked the runways and txwys. There were no people or vehs anywhere within 1000'. I made a judgement decision to land the plane and when I exited the plane the airport manager drove up to the plane and began screaming at me. I explained my situation but they didn't care. They were only concerned with their cleanup operation from the flea market that day. They requested my license to report my actions ot the FAA. I complied with their request.
