Narrative:

VFR charter flight to hwv with 2 passenger. I made 3 position reports on CTAF 122.8 inbound to airport. No reply from unicom or other aircraft. Frequency was quiet. Just prior to touchdown, someone on 122.8 informed me airport was closed. Asked permission to land and disembark 1 passenger quickly and depart (from marked heliport). Was told to do so and depart quickly. Problem: did not check NOTAMS prior to flight, but must admit NOTAMS are hard to check. Found this information under isp identifier. I don't know if I would have checked for it under that identifier anyway. I wish there was a better way of disseminating information such as this to pilots but I have no suggestions.
