Narrative:
On left base to runway 21R at nyl. At approximately 800' AGL, tower reported a light civil aircraft Y on a visibility approach to runway 26 spotted aircraft immediately. Tower had also said other aircraft had us in sight. Other aircraft Y appeared to take no evasive action forcing us to descend beneath him to avoid collision. When clear we circled and made a landing. Tower's response when questioned about the incident was 'well, you both had each other in sight.' true, but we were entirely too close, with a conflicting setup the other aircraft Y was making right traffic to runway 26 it appears to me that tower wa more interested in something other than deconflicting traffic.

Title: CLOSE ENCOUNTER FOR MLT Y AND CIVIL ACFT Y ON APCH TO NYL.
Narrative: ON LEFT BASE TO RWY 21R AT NYL. AT APPROX 800' AGL, TWR RPTED A LIGHT CIVIL ACFT Y ON A VIS APCH TO RWY 26 SPOTTED ACFT IMMEDIATELY. TWR HAD ALSO SAID OTHER ACFT HAD US IN SIGHT. OTHER ACFT Y APPEARED TO TAKE NO EVASIVE ACTION FORCING US TO DSND BENEATH HIM TO AVOID COLLISION. WHEN CLR WE CIRCLED AND MADE A LNDG. TWR'S RESPONSE WHEN QUESTIONED ABOUT THE INCIDENT WAS 'WELL, YOU BOTH HAD EACH OTHER IN SIGHT.' TRUE, BUT WE WERE ENTIRELY TOO CLOSE, WITH A CONFLICTING SETUP THE OTHER ACFT Y WAS MAKING RIGHT TFC TO RWY 26 IT APPEARS TO ME THAT TWR WA MORE INTERESTED IN SOMETHING OTHER THAN DECONFLICTING TFC.
