Narrative:
The flight was normal with no problems except we forgot (or I forgot) to switch to tower for landing clearance. I remember approach control giving the frequency, but I really don't know if I switched or not. After landing we discovered that I apparently did not. My mind is a blank on the subject. The day started early am (body time) in dtw. We had flown to dfw and been reassigned to fly to sfo instead of lax. I had not slept well the night before. My usual schedule has been all-nighters for quite some time. I had trouble staying alert all day and apparently just blanked out on approach. I suppose this is the age-old problem of trying to be awake and alert when your body says you should be asleep. The bad thing here was that neither of the other 2 crew members caught my mistake. Supplemental information from acn 158469: I used poor judgement in assuming the captain had contacted the tower and not insisting he confirm our clearance to land.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: ACR WDB LANDS WITHOUT CLRNC AT SFO.
Narrative: THE FLT WAS NORMAL WITH NO PROBS EXCEPT WE FORGOT (OR I FORGOT) TO SWITCH TO TWR FOR LNDG CLRNC. I REMEMBER APCH CTL GIVING THE FREQ, BUT I REALLY DON'T KNOW IF I SWITCHED OR NOT. AFTER LNDG WE DISCOVERED THAT I APPARENTLY DID NOT. I HAD TROUBLE STAYING ALERT ALL DAY AND APPARENTLY JUST BLANKED OUT ON APCH. I SUPPOSE THIS IS THE AGE-OLD PROB OF TRYING TO BE AWAKE AND ALERT WHEN YOUR BODY SAYS YOU SHOULD BE ASLEEP. THE BAD THING HERE WAS THAT NEITHER OF THE OTHER 2 CREW MEMBERS CAUGHT MY MISTAKE. SUPPLEMENTAL INFO FROM ACN 158469: I USED POOR JUDGEMENT IN ASSUMING THE CAPT HAD CONTACTED THE TWR AND NOT INSISTING HE CONFIRM OUR CLRNC TO LAND.
