After I had approach plate selected; we were contacted by abe tower and told they had a low altitude alert. I saw that 600 feet was set into the altitude; as opposed to the 2;000 feet I had set when we were at 3;000 feet and assigned 2;000 feet. While in the descent we were cleared for a visual at which point pilot monitoring set 600 feet for MDA for RNAV 31 and the 2;000 foot altitude had not captured yet causing us to descend below selected altitude.altitude set by pilot monitoring while pilot flying was pulling up approach plate on ipad and not clearly understanding what was said by pilot monitoring.disconnected autopilot and climbed to safe altitude and continued visual approach.
