Narrative:
During a very busy period, I understood the ground controller to say, 'hustle up behind the (air carrier name) ahead; you're #1 for 9L, switch to tower.' I taxied on the new scenic in anticipation of being #1, and apparently the controller wanted us to use the old scenic and follow a progression of aircraft to the runway. I think the confusion arose as a result of an original clearance being amended, curing a busy cockpit period, and our understanding that we would be departing before other flts by the use of the phrase 'you're #1.' supplemental information from acn 159744: during taxi out for takeoff I was off ground frequency performing other duties. Which I returned to ord ground I heard the last portion of a ground transmission stating, '#1 for runway 9L.' as we approaching runway 9L ord ground advised us we were to follow the aircraft to our right and stay in that line for runway 9L. We then made 2 turns as instructed and got back in sequence. We did not seem to cause any delays in the ground traffic flow.

Title: A TAXIING ACR ACFT DID NOT FOLLOW GND CTLR INSTRUCTIONS AND TOOK WRONG TXWY TO RWY. NO CONFLICT WITH OTHER ACFT.
Narrative: DURING A VERY BUSY PERIOD, I UNDERSTOOD THE GND CTLR TO SAY, 'HUSTLE UP BEHIND THE (ACR NAME) AHEAD; YOU'RE #1 FOR 9L, SWITCH TO TWR.' I TAXIED ON THE NEW SCENIC IN ANTICIPATION OF BEING #1, AND APPARENTLY THE CTLR WANTED US TO USE THE OLD SCENIC AND FOLLOW A PROGRESSION OF ACFT TO THE RWY. I THINK THE CONFUSION AROSE AS A RESULT OF AN ORIGINAL CLRNC BEING AMENDED, CURING A BUSY COCKPIT PERIOD, AND OUR UNDERSTANDING THAT WE WOULD BE DEPARTING BEFORE OTHER FLTS BY THE USE OF THE PHRASE 'YOU'RE #1.' SUPPLEMENTAL INFO FROM ACN 159744: DURING TAXI OUT FOR TKOF I WAS OFF GND FREQ PERFORMING OTHER DUTIES. WHICH I RETURNED TO ORD GND I HEARD THE LAST PORTION OF A GND XMISSION STATING, '#1 FOR RWY 9L.' AS WE APCHING RWY 9L ORD GND ADVISED US WE WERE TO FOLLOW THE ACFT TO OUR RIGHT AND STAY IN THAT LINE FOR RWY 9L. WE THEN MADE 2 TURNS AS INSTRUCTED AND GOT BACK IN SEQUENCE. WE DID NOT SEEM TO CAUSE ANY DELAYS IN THE GND TFC FLOW.
