Narrative:
I was flying with my student pilot up the hudson river showing our 2 passenger the ny skyline. Approximately 4 mi south of the tapanzee bridge we took a northeast heading and I contacted westchester tower and gave our position 7 mi southwest for a transition through their air traffic area. The controller acknowledged by saying circumnav the air traffic area and contact ny approach on 120.80. I remained on my heading and contacted ny approach anticipating a transition through westchester's airspace. After being positively idented ny told me I was 4 mi from westchester airport and said to me that I was in their air traffic area west/O a clearance. I responded by saying the instructions the westchester controller gave me to circumnav and to contact ny on 120.80. The controller responded saying to me circumnavs means remain clear. The corrective action I took was I immediately turned the aircraft to the right to exit the air traffic area and remained on the approach frequency. No other comment was said to me after this situation occurred.
