Narrative:

Mlb ground control cleared air carrier medium large transport to taxi to runway 27. After leaving the gate we mistakenly began to taxi to runway 9R. On the way, ground control advised us that we had taxied across an active runway, namely 4-22. Upon reaching the next taxiway we were cleared turn right, back-taxi and were cleared for takeoff on runway 27L with no further incident. A contributing factors was that we had flown into this airport all month, were very familiar with its operation, and always used runway 9R for takeoff. By force of habit and not really listening carefully enough to the clearance, we unfortunately taxied in the wrong direction causing the incursion. The WX was clear and visibility unlimited, and there were 2 other moving aircraft. Ground control certainly could see our aircraft taxiing to the wrong runway, but did not issue a radio warning before our incursion, although I certainly do not expect them to be responsible for aircraft taxiing to the wrong runway. In this case, however, if ground control could issue a clearance, 'cleared to runway 27 via the ramp,' this would emphasize to the crew to not use the taxiway that leads in the wrong direction, preventing crossing runway 4-22.

Title: ACR MLG UNAUTH RWY CROSSING TAXIING TO THE WRONG RWY AT MLB.

Narrative: MLB GND CTL CLRED ACR MLG TO TAXI TO RWY 27. AFTER LEAVING THE GATE WE MISTAKENLY BEGAN TO TAXI TO RWY 9R. ON THE WAY, GND CTL ADVISED US THAT WE HAD TAXIED ACROSS AN ACTIVE RWY, NAMELY 4-22. UPON REACHING THE NEXT TXWY WE WERE CLRED TURN RIGHT, BACK-TAXI AND WERE CLRED FOR TKOF ON RWY 27L WITH NO FURTHER INCIDENT. A CONTRIBUTING FACTORS WAS THAT WE HAD FLOWN INTO THIS ARPT ALL MONTH, WERE VERY FAMILIAR WITH ITS OPERATION, AND ALWAYS USED RWY 9R FOR TKOF. BY FORCE OF HABIT AND NOT REALLY LISTENING CAREFULLY ENOUGH TO THE CLRNC, WE UNFORTUNATELY TAXIED IN THE WRONG DIRECTION CAUSING THE INCURSION. THE WX WAS CLR AND VISIBILITY UNLIMITED, AND THERE WERE 2 OTHER MOVING ACFT. GND CTL CERTAINLY COULD SEE OUR ACFT TAXIING TO THE WRONG RWY, BUT DID NOT ISSUE A RADIO WARNING BEFORE OUR INCURSION, ALTHOUGH I CERTAINLY DO NOT EXPECT THEM TO BE RESPONSIBLE FOR ACFT TAXIING TO THE WRONG RWY. IN THIS CASE, HOWEVER, IF GND CTL COULD ISSUE A CLRNC, 'CLRED TO RWY 27 VIA THE RAMP,' THIS WOULD EMPHASIZE TO THE CREW TO NOT USE THE TXWY THAT LEADS IN THE WRONG DIRECTION, PREVENTING XING RWY 4-22.
