Narrative:
Cleared for takeoff 35L. Engine speed up, 10 KTS G/south achieved. Takeoff warning horn sounded. Throttles retarded slowly. Advised tower clearing runway to check aircraft, and that we have aborted takeoff roll. Clearance runway at L3 taxiway. No discrepancy found in confign to cause horn to sound. Ground control asked reason for rejected takeoff. Notified ground control of takeoff warning horn, and that it was the reason we decided not to continue takeoff roll. Rechked confign horn with power up on taxiway after rechking every possible cause. After final check, no indication of horn found. Suspect that speed brake vibrated out of detent, doing engine run-up and initial takeoff roll on 35L. This situation required us to reject the takeoff and exit the runway at L3 in the interest of safety; however, no log book write-up was made because no systems were inoperative. No systems inoperative and follow-up system check was satisfactory.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: ACR MLG TKOF WARNING HORN SOUNDED ON TKOF CAUSING FLT CREW TO ABORT.
Narrative: CLRED FOR TKOF 35L. ENG SPD UP, 10 KTS G/S ACHIEVED. TKOF WARNING HORN SOUNDED. THROTTLES RETARDED SLOWLY. ADVISED TWR CLRING RWY TO CHK ACFT, AND THAT WE HAVE ABORTED TKOF ROLL. CLRNC RWY AT L3 TXWY. NO DISCREPANCY FOUND IN CONFIGN TO CAUSE HORN TO SOUND. GND CTL ASKED REASON FOR REJECTED TKOF. NOTIFIED GND CTL OF TKOF WARNING HORN, AND THAT IT WAS THE REASON WE DECIDED NOT TO CONTINUE TKOF ROLL. RECHKED CONFIGN HORN WITH PWR UP ON TXWY AFTER RECHKING EVERY POSSIBLE CAUSE. AFTER FINAL CHK, NO INDICATION OF HORN FOUND. SUSPECT THAT SPD BRAKE VIBRATED OUT OF DETENT, DOING ENG RUN-UP AND INITIAL TKOF ROLL ON 35L. THIS SITUATION REQUIRED US TO REJECT THE TKOF AND EXIT THE RWY AT L3 IN THE INTEREST OF SAFETY; HOWEVER, NO LOG BOOK WRITE-UP WAS MADE BECAUSE NO SYSTEMS WERE INOP. NO SYSTEMS INOP AND FOLLOW-UP SYS CHK WAS SATISFACTORY.
