Narrative:
Cpr X on approach to mdw ILS 31C. Approach was advised to expect cancellation of IFR in VMC conditions and proceed VFR to cgx. Mdw tower was advised of same. In VMC conditions, 1500' MSL, crew cancelled IFR and were given a vector of 060 degrees to meigs and squawk code of XXXX. With the impression that cgx tower and mdw approach were coordinating, the controller called airport 12 O'clock, 4 mi. Switching to cgx tower, our first call went unanswered. Second call was made 2 1/2 mi southwest. Cgx tower responded that we were in violation by entering the cgx air traffic area west/O prior permission. As a conversation took place on the ground, we found that approach had not coordinated with cgx tower, had allowed us to enter airspace not controled by him. Cgx tower had a very strong complaint that could lead to a possible collision someday. Our assuming the coordination was being handled, should possibly be followed up by a request to do so by approach, and will be in the future.

Title: CPR X ENTERED CGX ATA WITHOUT PROPER TRACON ATCT INTERFAC COORD. OPDEV.
Narrative: CPR X ON APCH TO MDW ILS 31C. APCH WAS ADVISED TO EXPECT CANCELLATION OF IFR IN VMC CONDITIONS AND PROCEED VFR TO CGX. MDW TWR WAS ADVISED OF SAME. IN VMC CONDITIONS, 1500' MSL, CREW CANCELLED IFR AND WERE GIVEN A VECTOR OF 060 DEGS TO MEIGS AND SQUAWK CODE OF XXXX. WITH THE IMPRESSION THAT CGX TWR AND MDW APCH WERE COORDINATING, THE CTLR CALLED ARPT 12 O'CLOCK, 4 MI. SWITCHING TO CGX TWR, OUR FIRST CALL WENT UNANSWERED. SECOND CALL WAS MADE 2 1/2 MI SW. CGX TWR RESPONDED THAT WE WERE IN VIOLATION BY ENTERING THE CGX ATA W/O PRIOR PERMISSION. AS A CONVERSATION TOOK PLACE ON THE GND, WE FOUND THAT APCH HAD NOT COORDINATED WITH CGX TWR, HAD ALLOWED US TO ENTER AIRSPACE NOT CTLED BY HIM. CGX TWR HAD A VERY STRONG COMPLAINT THAT COULD LEAD TO A POSSIBLE COLLISION SOMEDAY. OUR ASSUMING THE COORD WAS BEING HANDLED, SHOULD POSSIBLY BE FOLLOWED UP BY A REQUEST TO DO SO BY APCH, AND WILL BE IN THE FUTURE.
