Narrative:
On climb out from dfw, near level off at FL310, we received a TCAS ii alert to avoid traffic. We continued to climb about 600' then returned to FL310. We never saw the traffic. It was possibly a false TCAS ii alert, but like the GPWS, its better to be safe than sorry.

Title: FLT CREW OF MLG LEVELING AT FL310 RECEIVED A TCAS ALERT. CLIMBED 600'. RETURNED TO FL310. NO TRAFFIC SIGHTED.
Narrative: ON CLB OUT FROM DFW, NEAR LEVEL OFF AT FL310, WE RECEIVED A TCAS II ALERT TO AVOID TFC. WE CONTINUED TO CLB ABOUT 600' THEN RETURNED TO FL310. WE NEVER SAW THE TFC. IT WAS POSSIBLY A FALSE TCAS II ALERT, BUT LIKE THE GPWS, ITS BETTER TO BE SAFE THAN SORRY.
