Narrative:
I believe a near miss occurred on the evening of 12/X/90 at majors field, greenville, tx. The 2 aircraft were small aircraft X and small aircraft Y. The attached drawing details the path of the 2 aircraft. #South adjacent to the fixes indicate the relative positions of the 2 aircraft at a specific point in time. At position 1, approximately 3 mi northwest of the field, I announced my intent of making a left-hand pattern with a crosswind entry. Error 1: I actually made an upwind entry. At position 2, I heard Y announce 4 west of the field, planning to cross over the top and make a downwind entry. Believing he had heard my previous position report and aircraft and that I would fly 1 mi before he flew 4, I continued. At position 3, I spotted Y about 100' below and slightly behind me. I do not believe his previous position report was accurate. It appeared we passed with a couple of hundred ft of each other. Y made his entry downwind on the far side of the field. We both landed west/O incident.

Title: PLT OF SMA ENTERING TRAFFIC PATTERN AT UNCONTROLLED ARPT HAD NMAC WITH ANOTHER SMA CROSSING THE TRAFFIC PATTERN.
Narrative: I BELIEVE A NEAR MISS OCCURRED ON THE EVENING OF 12/X/90 AT MAJORS FIELD, GREENVILLE, TX. THE 2 ACFT WERE SMA X AND SMA Y. THE ATTACHED DRAWING DETAILS THE PATH OF THE 2 ACFT. #S ADJACENT TO THE FIXES INDICATE THE RELATIVE POSITIONS OF THE 2 ACFT AT A SPECIFIC POINT IN TIME. AT POS 1, APPROX 3 MI NW OF THE FIELD, I ANNOUNCED MY INTENT OF MAKING A LEFT-HAND PATTERN WITH A XWIND ENTRY. ERROR 1: I ACTUALLY MADE AN UPWIND ENTRY. AT POS 2, I HEARD Y ANNOUNCE 4 W OF THE FIELD, PLANNING TO CROSS OVER THE TOP AND MAKE A DOWNWIND ENTRY. BELIEVING HE HAD HEARD MY PREVIOUS POS RPT AND ACFT AND THAT I WOULD FLY 1 MI BEFORE HE FLEW 4, I CONTINUED. AT POS 3, I SPOTTED Y ABOUT 100' BELOW AND SLIGHTLY BEHIND ME. I DO NOT BELIEVE HIS PREVIOUS POS RPT WAS ACCURATE. IT APPEARED WE PASSED WITH A COUPLE OF HUNDRED FT OF EACH OTHER. Y MADE HIS ENTRY DOWNWIND ON THE FAR SIDE OF THE FIELD. WE BOTH LANDED W/O INCIDENT.
