Narrative:

A BE35 was on final cleared to land. The landing gear appeared to be up; and a go around clearance was issued. The aircraft attempted to go around but was unsuccessful in doing so and proceeded to land gear up and slid off of the runway into the grass. No injuries were reported at the time of the incident. Pilots with retractable gear; do a better job at checking gear down on final; and controllers should look for gear down at a further distance on final to provide more time for corrections.
