Narrative:

Normal taxi and initial takeoff. At 700' AGL heard and felt loud bang coming from rear of aircraft. Engine failure light came on simultaneously and we continued to climb to 6900' MSL. Proceeded cleaning up the aircraft along with the engine failure checklist. Noticed 0 RPM and pegged egt. Continued to feel constant rumbling, even after engine was shut down. Requested den WX and decided to continue to den where WX was much better then cos. Cos WX was rapidly deteriorating with snow and visibility less than 3/4-1/2 mi. Emergency initially declared and we were expeditiously handed off to ZDV with uneventful landing followed. Taxied off active runway 35R and requested emergency vehs to inspect rear of aircraft, particularly left #1 engine. They reported a large hole and other damage to engine, but no fire. Continued on to gate assignment for deplaning. Good crew coordination within cockpit, as well as F/a's. Chain of events was hectic due to contact interruption by ATC and the concern of constant rumbling, even after engine shutdown. First officer did a fine job of flying, but I decided to make the landing due to snow on ground. Don't particularly like transitioning on rollout from first officer to captain with any irregularities or runway cover.

Title: ACR LGT ENGINE FAILURE AFTER TKOF FROM COS. CONTINUED TO DEN DUE COS WX.

Narrative: NORMAL TAXI AND INITIAL TKOF. AT 700' AGL HEARD AND FELT LOUD BANG COMING FROM REAR OF ACFT. ENG FAILURE LIGHT CAME ON SIMULTANEOUSLY AND WE CONTINUED TO CLB TO 6900' MSL. PROCEEDED CLEANING UP THE ACFT ALONG WITH THE ENG FAILURE CHKLIST. NOTICED 0 RPM AND PEGGED EGT. CONTINUED TO FEEL CONSTANT RUMBLING, EVEN AFTER ENG WAS SHUT DOWN. REQUESTED DEN WX AND DECIDED TO CONTINUE TO DEN WHERE WX WAS MUCH BETTER THEN COS. COS WX WAS RAPIDLY DETERIORATING WITH SNOW AND VISIBILITY LESS THAN 3/4-1/2 MI. EMER INITIALLY DECLARED AND WE WERE EXPEDITIOUSLY HANDED OFF TO ZDV WITH UNEVENTFUL LNDG FOLLOWED. TAXIED OFF ACTIVE RWY 35R AND REQUESTED EMER VEHS TO INSPECT REAR OF ACFT, PARTICULARLY LEFT #1 ENG. THEY RPTED A LARGE HOLE AND OTHER DAMAGE TO ENG, BUT NO FIRE. CONTINUED ON TO GATE ASSIGNMENT FOR DEPLANING. GOOD CREW COORD WITHIN COCKPIT, AS WELL AS F/A'S. CHAIN OF EVENTS WAS HECTIC DUE TO CONTACT INTERRUPTION BY ATC AND THE CONCERN OF CONSTANT RUMBLING, EVEN AFTER ENG SHUTDOWN. F/O DID A FINE JOB OF FLYING, BUT I DECIDED TO MAKE THE LNDG DUE TO SNOW ON GND. DON'T PARTICULARLY LIKE TRANSITIONING ON ROLLOUT FROM F/O TO CAPT WITH ANY IRREGULARITIES OR RWY COVER.
