Narrative:
Departing shv, we heard a loud pop and thought we may have blown a tire. No other indications were evident in the cockpit until later. Climbing through about 4000 ft the #2 generator dropped off line and upon further inspection found the #2 engine egt in the yellow band. We retarded the throttle to about 80% N1 to keep the engine temperature below the yellow arc. While the engine was still providing thrust, we felt it best to go ahead and shut it down. All appropriate checklists were run and the engine shut down normally. By this time, while closer to shv than memphis, we decided that with the better WX in memphis as well as better emergency equipment it was best to continue on there. Landing was uneventful and emergency was terminated after clearing.

Title: ACR LGT OFF SHV HEARD LOUD POP AND THOUGHT HAD BLOWN TIRE ON TKOF. AT 4000 FT #2 GENERATOR DROPPED OFF THE LINE AND NOTED EGT #2 ENG IN YELLOW BAND. ELECTED TO SHUT DOWN ENG AND CONTINUE TO MEM ACCOUNT BETTER WX. LAND OK AND TERMINATED THE EMER.
