Narrative:

This was a pwrback from a gate in mem close to a taxiway. After the ground marshaller signaled us to terminate the pwrback, the aircraft continued backwards due to its heavy weight (107000 pounds) and the downslope of the taxiway. We could not see how close we were to the edge. Further, the marshaller turned us to the right to avoid a ground loading vehicle (for an air carrier B767). This was distracting. The aircraft continued backwards after we came out of reverse and went off the taxiway into the mud. The company has since terminated pwrbacks at this gate.
