Narrative:
Pushback [tractor] operator failed to properly secure towbar to aircraft and did not install by-pass pin before pushing. As push commenced; operator saw towbar not seated properly and stopped push; causing bar and nose gear to separate. Pilot advised to set brakes and stopped aircraft from short roll. Push speed was very slow at the time of incident.
