Narrative:

While taxiing away from jetway in bis, the left wing tip strobe lens struck the jetway. From my perspective, the copilot and I had completed the after start checklist and I signaled the ground lead out person, by turning on nose wheel taxi light, that I was ready for taxi. The lead ground person indicated by moving his orange colored wands in a forward motion to begin movement of the aircraft. We made an immediate right turn and proceeded to runway 13. While taxiing, the ground controller said to contact the company. They informed us we had struck the jetway with the left wing tip. We taxied back to the gate and investigated. The contributing factors were: 1) the on-time departure pressure, 2) the noncompliance with established safety procedures, and 3) ensuring jetway was behind yellow line before aircraft movement. The lead ground person has over 25 yrs experience at his job. As a PIC, I felt there was nothing more I could have done to prevent this incident, as I have to depend on the ground personnel to ensure proper clearance of the jetway. The damage was limited to the lens that covers the strobe on the left wing tip.
