Narrative:
I taxied for takeoff at ome, trying to make a clearance void time. I taxied to runway 02 to save time and fuel. I knew that takeoff minimums for 02 are higher than standard, but since the WX was VFR and the hills to the north, which cause the higher minimums, were visible, I didn't check the exact takeoff minimums. I believe that the reported WX was 1100' ceiling and 7 mi visibility. It wasn't until the next day when I was checking the approach plate that I found that the actual minimums are 1200' ceiling and 2 mi visibility. The cause of this error was complacency on my part, compounded by haste to make the clearance void time, and a desire to save fuel. (Runway 27, which has standard takeoff minimums, is about the same taxi distance, but about 300 extra # of fuel are used in the course reversal.) from now on, I will be checking the takeoff minimums regardless of airport or WX, and I won't be accepting any clearance void times that don't allow plenty of time west/O having to hurry. Since I don't have a copy of the actual WX at takeoff, it is possible that it was above minimums, but that still would not excuse not checking the takeoff minimums.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: ACR PIC EXECUTES TKOF IN PROX OF MOUNTAINOUS TERRAIN ON A RWY THAT REQUIRES A HIGHER THAN REPORTED CEILING.
Narrative: I TAXIED FOR TKOF AT OME, TRYING TO MAKE A CLRNC VOID TIME. I TAXIED TO RWY 02 TO SAVE TIME AND FUEL. I KNEW THAT TKOF MINIMUMS FOR 02 ARE HIGHER THAN STANDARD, BUT SINCE THE WX WAS VFR AND THE HILLS TO THE N, WHICH CAUSE THE HIGHER MINIMUMS, WERE VISIBLE, I DIDN'T CHK THE EXACT TKOF MINIMUMS. I BELIEVE THAT THE RPTED WX WAS 1100' CEILING AND 7 MI VISIBILITY. IT WASN'T UNTIL THE NEXT DAY WHEN I WAS CHKING THE APCH PLATE THAT I FOUND THAT THE ACTUAL MINIMUMS ARE 1200' CEILING AND 2 MI VISIBILITY. THE CAUSE OF THIS ERROR WAS COMPLACENCY ON MY PART, COMPOUNDED BY HASTE TO MAKE THE CLRNC VOID TIME, AND A DESIRE TO SAVE FUEL. (RWY 27, WHICH HAS STANDARD TKOF MINIMUMS, IS ABOUT THE SAME TAXI DISTANCE, BUT ABOUT 300 EXTRA # OF FUEL ARE USED IN THE COURSE REVERSAL.) FROM NOW ON, I WILL BE CHKING THE TKOF MINIMUMS REGARDLESS OF ARPT OR WX, AND I WON'T BE ACCEPTING ANY CLRNC VOID TIMES THAT DON'T ALLOW PLENTY OF TIME W/O HAVING TO HURRY. SINCE I DON'T HAVE A COPY OF THE ACTUAL WX AT TKOF, IT IS POSSIBLE THAT IT WAS ABOVE MINIMUMS, BUT THAT STILL WOULD NOT EXCUSE NOT CHKING THE TKOF MINIMUMS.
