Narrative:
During the acton one arrival to dfw I experienced radio failure. I had not received final clearance to dfw and was unable to determine what the problem was. Due to airliner traffic I elected to make a left turn from 040 degree heading to 250 degree heading and proceed west from the dfw VOR hoping to get in a clear area I climbed to 6000' in order to obtain visibility contact above some clouds and began working on the radios and associated equipment to try and locate the problem. I found that when I had placed my chart book on my lap to set up the approach I had unplugged the radios. I immediately corrected the problem, called dfw approach and was given a right turn to 060 degree heading and a descent to 4000'. I was then radar vectored for an ILS to runway 13R at dfw. No further problems were encountered.

Title: GA PLT EXPERIENCES COM RADIO PROBLEM ON STAR TO DFW, ELECTS RADIO COM FAIL PROC FOR VMC ALTHOUGH STILL IMC.
Narrative: DURING THE ACTON ONE ARR TO DFW I EXPERIENCED RADIO FAILURE. I HAD NOT RECEIVED FINAL CLRNC TO DFW AND WAS UNABLE TO DETERMINE WHAT THE PROB WAS. DUE TO AIRLINER TFC I ELECTED TO MAKE A L TURN FROM 040 DEG HDG TO 250 DEG HDG AND PROCEED W FROM THE DFW VOR HOPING TO GET IN A CLR AREA I CLBED TO 6000' IN ORDER TO OBTAIN VIS CONTACT ABOVE SOME CLOUDS AND BEGAN WORKING ON THE RADIOS AND ASSOCIATED EQUIPMENT TO TRY AND LOCATE THE PROB. I FOUND THAT WHEN I HAD PLACED MY CHART BOOK ON MY LAP TO SET UP THE APCH I HAD UNPLUGGED THE RADIOS. I IMMEDIATELY CORRECTED THE PROB, CALLED DFW APCH AND WAS GIVEN A R TURN TO 060 DEG HDG AND A DSNT TO 4000'. I WAS THEN RADAR VECTORED FOR AN ILS TO RWY 13R AT DFW. NO FURTHER PROBS WERE ENCOUNTERED.
