Narrative:
Reported to aircraft 1 hour prior to departure. While in gate area; downloaded flight plan weather and jeppsen routing. Once on aircraft; made first call to maintenance to get log book. Called operations to get correct security form. Maintenance personnel came out to aircraft and I told him I need log book. We both looked around flight deck for log book. He left aircraft to go look for log book. Operations personnel came to flight deck to give me a correct security form. First officer was quick called and arrived 35 minutes prior to departure. Mechanic came back and said he couldn't find log book. I was interrupted several times on flows due maintenance log and trying to get security form. Maintenance found log book prior to departure time and gave us log book. We both reviewed log book.taxi out noticed wind sock indicated tail wind take off. Set parking brake and first officer called dispatcher for new numbers for runway 36 right with 5 knot tailwind; had to call dispatch again to get correct temperature on tps. Completed all checklist. I was pilot flying. Takeoff runway 36R just after rotation aircraft tried to abruptly yaw hard left and then to the right. My focus was on maintaining aircraft control. I queried first officer positive rate and he said do you really want to raise gear I think we have gear problem. I was hand flying and aircraft was climbing good. We elected to maintain configuration gear down. We [advised ATC] and made right traffic for [runway] 36C.we had no ECAM cautions or warnings or messages all systems indicated normal. Communicated with flight attendants; dispatch and passengers. We set up for approach and briefed and accomplished checklists. Advised tower we would be full stop on runway for inspection. On base; spoke with flight attendants again to confirm no changes plan on precautionary landing; they told me everything was good and confirmed precautionary landing. Normal landing [runway] 36R came to stop on runway 36R and made PA this is the captain remain seated remain seated remain seated.told passengers aircraft would be inspected prior to taxiing to gate. On tower frequency communicated with fire chief told him we may have a gear and or engine issue; he said he heard loud bang observed back fire from our right engine on takeoff. He inspected aircraft and engines and landing gear he said we were all clear and good to taxi to gate. We shut down the right engine and checked all systems everything checked normal. Taxied clear of runway.was told part failure on right engine. We had brief rhythmic banging. No ECAM warnings.
