Narrative:
When large transport X departed lax for hdn, the hdn WX was good with a chance of light snow forecast for our arrival. When we arrived in the hdn area, the WX had deteriorated, necessitating ILS approachs to runway 10. Several aircraft were ahead of us and we were given holding instructions and an ekc. By then, the WX was reported 7 overcast, 2 calm winds. Once the aircraft ahead of us reported 'on the ground,' ZDV cleared us for approach. We switched to unicom frequency and called inbound. The unicom frequency was busy with a lot of chatter as there were several aircraft and much activity on the ground at hdn. Some of the xmissions were garbled, but we did hear someone call, 'large transport Y clearing the runway.' as we continued our approach, we found the WX not to be 7 overcast 2 as reported, but more like 250' overcast 3/4. We saw the runway and noted that the portion of it that we could see was clear, so we landed. As we were coming to a stop, out of a snowshower at the end of the runway loomed an large transport Y. This was the aircraft that had landed just prior to us who we thought was clear of the runway. Once we came to a complete stop, there was approximately 2500' between the 2 aircraft. Later, when I spoke with the captain of the large transport Y, I learned that it was his first trip into hdn and that he was surprised that the WX was not as reported. He also stated that he had expected a parallel taxiway and when he got to the end of the runway found none. To make matters worse, he had difficulty turning his large transport Y as the end of the runway was ice covered with snow. This further delayed his egress. I also spoke with the airport manager, and he seemed confused and changed his story several times. He did say that he had announced on unicom that 'large transport Y is clearing the runway.' I believe that this is the call that we heard. I also believe that what he meant to say was that large transport Y was backtaxiing on the runway. I do not know if the airport manager is a pilot or not, but his aviation semantics were certainly lacking.

LATER, WHEN I SPOKE WITH THE CAPT OF THE LGT Y, I LEARNED THAT IT WAS HIS FIRST TRIP INTO HDN AND THAT HE WAS SURPRISED THAT THE WX WAS NOT AS RPTED. HE ALSO STATED THAT HE HAD EXPECTED A PARALLEL TXWY AND WHEN HE GOT TO THE END OF THE RWY FOUND NONE. TO MAKE MATTERS WORSE, HE HAD DIFFICULTY TURNING HIS LGT Y AS THE END OF THE RWY WAS ICE COVERED WITH SNOW. THIS FURTHER DELAYED HIS EGRESS. I ALSO SPOKE WITH THE ARPT MGR, AND HE SEEMED CONFUSED AND CHANGED HIS STORY SEVERAL TIMES. HE DID SAY THAT HE HAD ANNOUNCED ON UNICOM THAT 'LGT Y IS CLRING THE RWY.' I BELIEVE THAT THIS IS THE CALL THAT WE HEARD. I ALSO BELIEVE THAT WHAT HE MEANT TO SAY WAS THAT LGT Y WAS BACKTAXIING ON THE RWY. I DO NOT KNOW IF THE ARPT MGR IS A PLT OR NOT, BUT HIS AVIATION SEMANTICS WERE CERTAINLY LACKING.
