Narrative:

I was working a very complex sector. I gave a descent to cpr X which placed him in confliction with atx Y. The radar associate pointed out the potential problem, but I misunderstood him. The supervisor came by moments later and pointed out the potential confliction, I then took immediate action to resolve the confliction, however, sep was lost. I believe this error was a result of a miscom between myself and the radar associate controller. Callback conversation with reporter revealed the following information. Reporter experience; 2 yrs radar, 2 yrs non radar, 4 yrs military. The handoff controller was radar qualified. The reporter stated several conflict alerts were flashing on his radar scope. The handoff controller pointed to the scope at a conflict that he thought the handoff controller was pointing at. The supervisor pointed out the system error conflict by using aircraft call signs and the reporter took action but not in time. Sep was 4.2 mi horizontal, 0 vertical. Place was 30 mi east of alb. System error filed. Supplemental information from acn 168682. Busy complex sector. Radar controller gave descent to one aircraft which placed him in confliction with another aircraft. I pointed the confliction out, but the radar controller misunderstood me.

Title: CPR X HAD LESS THAN STANDARD SEPARATION FROM ATX Y. SYSTEM ERROR.

Narrative: I WAS WORKING A VERY COMPLEX SECTOR. I GAVE A DSNT TO CPR X WHICH PLACED HIM IN CONFLICTION WITH ATX Y. THE RADAR ASSOCIATE POINTED OUT THE POTENTIAL PROB, BUT I MISUNDERSTOOD HIM. THE SUPVR CAME BY MOMENTS LATER AND POINTED OUT THE POTENTIAL CONFLICTION, I THEN TOOK IMMEDIATE ACTION TO RESOLVE THE CONFLICTION, HOWEVER, SEP WAS LOST. I BELIEVE THIS ERROR WAS A RESULT OF A MISCOM BTWN MYSELF AND THE RADAR ASSOCIATE CTLR. CALLBACK CONVERSATION WITH RPTR REVEALED THE FOLLOWING INFO. RPTR EXPERIENCE; 2 YRS RADAR, 2 YRS NON RADAR, 4 YRS MIL. THE HDOF CTLR WAS RADAR QUALIFIED. THE RPTR STATED SEVERAL CONFLICT ALERTS WERE FLASHING ON HIS RADAR SCOPE. THE HDOF CTLR POINTED TO THE SCOPE AT A CONFLICT THAT HE THOUGHT THE HDOF CTLR WAS POINTING AT. THE SUPVR POINTED OUT THE SYS ERROR CONFLICT BY USING ACFT CALL SIGNS AND THE RPTR TOOK ACTION BUT NOT IN TIME. SEP WAS 4.2 MI HORIZ, 0 VERT. PLACE WAS 30 MI E OF ALB. SYS ERROR FILED. SUPPLEMENTAL INFO FROM ACN 168682. BUSY COMPLEX SECTOR. RADAR CTLR GAVE DSNT TO ONE ACFT WHICH PLACED HIM IN CONFLICTION WITH ANOTHER ACFT. I POINTED THE CONFLICTION OUT, BUT THE RADAR CTLR MISUNDERSTOOD ME.
