Narrative:
While on departure climb through 5000' MSL, the number 1 engine fire warning sounded. The PNF immediately notified ATC of the engine fire warning. ATC granted our request for a return immediately to jfk and cleared us for a visibility approach. The engine fire in flight checklist was performed; both extinguishing bottles were discharged. The single engine operation checklist was performed. The jfk tower advised that the crash trucks were alerted and told to stand by. A single engine approach and landing was made to runway 22R. The aircraft was taxied clear of the active runway. The crash crew did a visibility inspection of the aircraft and reported that no fire danger existed. The aircraft was then taxied to the ramp west/O further incident.
