Narrative:
TCAS ii was operative in aircraft. Approach control called traffic at 9500', 'an small aircraft VFR in your 12 O'clock.' the TCAS ii announced, 'traffic, traffic,' then 'climb, climb.' we never saw traffic after RA, so we followed TCAS ii instructions and climbed to 10400'. The TCAS ii announced, 'clear of traffic.' we returned to 1000' and notified ATC of our deviation from assigned altitude. No further events occurred.
