Narrative:
While flying the queen two arrival at an altitude of 12000' MSL on a heading of 088 degrees, ind approach control reported traffic at our 12 O'clock position at 11100'. We reported the aircraft in sight and then reported an additional two aircraft. They were in a right hand racetrack pattern, initially turning north, then making a very steep turn to south. A fourth fgt suddenly appeared at our 3 O'clock position, below us and heading towards us with his wings level. He suddenly started a hard right climbing turn towards the south as though trying to rejoin the others. The first officer called for a hard left pullup, which I did, and climbed to 12500'. The fgt slid under the nose of our aircraft and as I watched him reappear under our nose, we heard jet engine noise, which could have been his afterburners. There was no indication that the other aircraft ever did see us. We reported a near miss to approach control. I telephoned approach control on the ground and was told, 'yes...they've done this before, I wish to heck they'd stay away from our arrival route.'

Title: LGT HAS A CONFLICT, POSSIBLY AN NMAC, WITH A FGT MANEUVERING IN THE STAR ROUTE.
Narrative: WHILE FLYING THE QUEEN TWO ARR AT AN ALT OF 12000' MSL ON A HDG OF 088 DEGS, IND APCH CTL RPTED TFC AT OUR 12 O'CLOCK POS AT 11100'. WE RPTED THE ACFT IN SIGHT AND THEN RPTED AN ADDITIONAL TWO ACFT. THEY WERE IN A R HAND RACETRACK PATTERN, INITIALLY TURNING N, THEN MAKING A VERY STEEP TURN TO S. A FOURTH FGT SUDDENLY APPEARED AT OUR 3 O'CLOCK POS, BELOW US AND HDG TOWARDS US WITH HIS WINGS LEVEL. HE SUDDENLY STARTED A HARD R CLBING TURN TOWARDS THE S AS THOUGH TRYING TO REJOIN THE OTHERS. THE F/O CALLED FOR A HARD L PULLUP, WHICH I DID, AND CLBED TO 12500'. THE FGT SLID UNDER THE NOSE OF OUR ACFT AND AS I WATCHED HIM REAPPEAR UNDER OUR NOSE, WE HEARD JET ENG NOISE, WHICH COULD HAVE BEEN HIS AFTERBURNERS. THERE WAS NO INDICATION THAT THE OTHER ACFT EVER DID SEE US. WE RPTED A NEAR MISS TO APCH CTL. I TELEPHONED APCH CTL ON THE GND AND WAS TOLD, 'YES...THEY'VE DONE THIS BEFORE, I WISH TO HECK THEY'D STAY AWAY FROM OUR ARR RTE.'
