Narrative:
On a scheduled flight from clt-mia in a widebody transport, we experienced moderate turbulence. This was encountered at 12000' at approximately 280 KTS and 10 NM north of honoe intersection. Our radar was on and operating. No returns were painting. There were several small to moderate buildups all along the arrival route. Although most were avoided, we did enter the top of a small buildup at approximately 12000'. No turbulence was reported at the time we entered the buildup. We experienced moderate turbulence for approximately 1 second. Immediately afterward, we were advised of a possible severe injury to passenger and crew member. Upon hearing this, I declared an emergency to mia west/O further incident. Apparently all injuries were minor in nature. All received medical attention at the gate and were later sent to hospital to be examined. I followed company and FAA procedures. I don't know what I could have done differently to prevent this encounter.
