Narrative:
I experienced a near miss with a commuter aircraft while on a return flight from troy, al to doh. I called cairns approach control for a practice ILS approach into the dhn runway 31. Cairns was too busy and asked that I call back in 15 mins. As I was relatively close to dhn, I decided to continue in VFR. Approaching dhn, I called tower and reported over the town of donaldsonville for landing. Donaldsonville, GA is approximately 33 mi southeast of dhn. I was actually over the town of headland, al, 6 mi east of dhn, and I should have correctly reported over headland. Being relatively new to the area, I have tried to learn the local area and towns. I was over headland and mistakenly reported over donaldsonville. On making my report, dhn tower told me to report a 5 mi final. This didn't make sense to me and I asked the tower if I had to fly a downwind long enough to be able to report a 5 mi final. Tower responded by telling me to enter a right downwind. I responded that I was already on a right downwind. Tower told me to continue. I was listening to other aircraft talking to tower, so when I had flown a slightly longer downwind, I had my student turn base. We continued on base until turning final. Rolling out on final, an aircraft called tower and asked who was the twin engine aircraft on final in front of him. Tower responded by asking who was the aircraft asking about the twin in front of him. At this time, the jump seat student said there was an aircraft to our right rear, close, and that we should turn left. Tower went on to tell the commuter aircraft that they were not talking to the aircraft in front of him and they didn't know who it was. We turned left and reentered traffic on a left downwind. I never saw the other aircraft, not prior to turning final or after the student reported the aircraft to our right rear. After reentering traffic, we made an uneventful landing.

Title: FLT CREW OF SMT ON PRACTICE ILS APCH TO DHN, VFR, CAME IN CLOSE PROX TO COMMUTER ALSO ON ILS APCH.
Narrative: I EXPERIENCED A NEAR MISS WITH A COMMUTER ACFT WHILE ON A RETURN FLT FROM TROY, AL TO DOH. I CALLED CAIRNS APCH CTL FOR A PRACTICE ILS APCH INTO THE DHN RWY 31. CAIRNS WAS TOO BUSY AND ASKED THAT I CALL BACK IN 15 MINS. AS I WAS RELATIVELY CLOSE TO DHN, I DECIDED TO CONTINUE IN VFR. APCHING DHN, I CALLED TWR AND RPTED OVER THE TOWN OF DONALDSONVILLE FOR LNDG. DONALDSONVILLE, GA IS APPROX 33 MI SE OF DHN. I WAS ACTUALLY OVER THE TOWN OF HEADLAND, AL, 6 MI E OF DHN, AND I SHOULD HAVE CORRECTLY RPTED OVER HEADLAND. BEING RELATIVELY NEW TO THE AREA, I HAVE TRIED TO LEARN THE LCL AREA AND TOWNS. I WAS OVER HEADLAND AND MISTAKENLY RPTED OVER DONALDSONVILLE. ON MAKING MY RPT, DHN TWR TOLD ME TO RPT A 5 MI FINAL. THIS DIDN'T MAKE SENSE TO ME AND I ASKED THE TWR IF I HAD TO FLY A DOWNWIND LONG ENOUGH TO BE ABLE TO RPT A 5 MI FINAL. TWR RESPONDED BY TELLING ME TO ENTER A RIGHT DOWNWIND. I RESPONDED THAT I WAS ALREADY ON A RIGHT DOWNWIND. TWR TOLD ME TO CONTINUE. I WAS LISTENING TO OTHER ACFT TALKING TO TWR, SO WHEN I HAD FLOWN A SLIGHTLY LONGER DOWNWIND, I HAD MY STUDENT TURN BASE. WE CONTINUED ON BASE UNTIL TURNING FINAL. ROLLING OUT ON FINAL, AN ACFT CALLED TWR AND ASKED WHO WAS THE TWIN ENGINE ACFT ON FINAL IN FRONT OF HIM. TWR RESPONDED BY ASKING WHO WAS THE ACFT ASKING ABOUT THE TWIN IN FRONT OF HIM. AT THIS TIME, THE JUMP SEAT STUDENT SAID THERE WAS AN ACFT TO OUR RIGHT REAR, CLOSE, AND THAT WE SHOULD TURN LEFT. TWR WENT ON TO TELL THE COMMUTER ACFT THAT THEY WERE NOT TALKING TO THE ACFT IN FRONT OF HIM AND THEY DIDN'T KNOW WHO IT WAS. WE TURNED LEFT AND REENTERED TFC ON A LEFT DOWNWIND. I NEVER SAW THE OTHER ACFT, NOT PRIOR TO TURNING FINAL OR AFTER THE STUDENT RPTED THE ACFT TO OUR RIGHT REAR. AFTER REENTERING TFC, WE MADE AN UNEVENTFUL LNDG.
