Narrative:

I was the training captain, giving instruction from the right seat, shooting an ILS runway 30 lgb. The PF started descending prior to the OM. We crossed the OM 400' (approximately) low. At the same time, the tower called traffic 2 O'clock, 1 mi, westbound. I replied negative contact. About 15 seconds later the tower issued us a low altitude alert and requested an immediate climb. We complied, and as the small transport passed approximately 150' below us, the captain reported it looked awfully close. The PF began a descent too soon because of a misinterp of a new EFIS presentation.

Title: LTT ON PRACTICE ILS APCH TO LGB DESCENDS BELOW ASSIGNED ALT AND HAS NMAC WITH AN SMA THAT WAS CUTTING THROUGH THE APCH COURSE.

AT THE SAME TIME, THE TWR CALLED TFC 2 O'CLOCK, 1 MI, WBND. I REPLIED NEGATIVE CONTACT. ABOUT 15 SECS LATER THE TWR ISSUED US A LOW ALT ALERT AND REQUESTED AN IMMEDIATE CLB. WE COMPLIED, AND AS THE SMT PASSED APPROX 150' BELOW US, THE CAPT RPTED IT LOOKED AWFULLY CLOSE. THE PF BEGAN A DSNT TOO SOON BECAUSE OF A MISINTERP OF A NEW EFIS PRESENTATION.
