Narrative:

Climb out from pmd to the northwest, edw approach cleared us to 5000' heading 060 degrees. Our TCAS gave us a traffic advisory showing at about 11 O'clock climbing through 4500'. We think ATC called out traffic Y, but can't be sure if he gave us a turn or level off to clear traffic Y. My copilot was flying the aircraft at the time and I was outside trying to pick up a visibility, however we were IMC in and out of broken to overcast cloud deck. As we began to level at 5000', we got a RA to climb, 'climb now.' ny copilot began an immediate climb. The TCAS return showed a red square and -1, meaning 100' vertical sep. We leveled at 6200' on heading of 080 degrees. I immediately reported our deviation to edw and told them we never saw traffic, but TCAS gave us an RA to climb. Edw said traffic was VFR climbing out of fox field. Supplemental information from acn 174354: the ivsi showed a command to climb at about 3000-3500 FPM.
