Narrative:
On vectors to runway 26, ont approach reported air carrier medium large transport traffic as we rolled out of turn from final. We reported aircraft in sight. Medium large transport Y began a right turn to final as approach told us to follow traffic to the airport. He was to land 26L. We (medium large transport X) were to land 26R. Almost simultaneously, TCAS announced traffic, followed by an RA, 'monitor vertical speed,' limiting descent to 400 FPM. We continued on north heading until spacing 3-5-4 mi. Turned toward airport. Informed approach of TCAS RA. Believe spacing by approach inadequate. TCAS was distracting during visibility maneuvering. First officer at controls. Aircraft was initially on autoplt. Disengaged and additional 10-20 degrees heading to right initiated to keep medium large transport Y in sight as he descended below us in right-hand turn for airport. RA was induced by vectors from approach.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: TCASII RA ON APCH CTL VECTOR.
Narrative: ON VECTORS TO RWY 26, ONT APCH RPTED ACR MLG TFC AS WE ROLLED OUT OF TURN FROM FINAL. WE RPTED ACFT IN SIGHT. MLG Y BEGAN A RIGHT TURN TO FINAL AS APCH TOLD US TO FOLLOW TFC TO THE ARPT. HE WAS TO LAND 26L. WE (MLG X) WERE TO LAND 26R. ALMOST SIMULTANEOUSLY, TCAS ANNOUNCED TFC, FOLLOWED BY AN RA, 'MONITOR VERT SPD,' LIMITING DSNT TO 400 FPM. WE CONTINUED ON N HDG UNTIL SPACING 3-5-4 MI. TURNED TOWARD ARPT. INFORMED APCH OF TCAS RA. BELIEVE SPACING BY APCH INADEQUATE. TCAS WAS DISTRACTING DURING VIS MANEUVERING. F/O AT CTLS. ACFT WAS INITIALLY ON AUTOPLT. DISENGAGED AND ADDITIONAL 10-20 DEGS HDG TO RIGHT INITIATED TO KEEP MLG Y IN SIGHT AS HE DSNDED BELOW US IN RIGHT-HAND TURN FOR ARPT. RA WAS INDUCED BY VECTORS FROM APCH.
