Narrative:
We were climbing to 10000', through 7500' (250 KTS), heading 340 degrees to intercept the lga 322 degree right to neon intersection. The first officer was flying the aircraft by hand. We had just been given an ATC frequency change and I had looked down to change it. As I looked up, both the first officer and I simultaneously saw a blue and white small aircraft at approximately 11:30, slightly high, at about 300-400'. We both initiated a gentle pushover to maintain altitude sep. The other aircraft had evidently seen us, as he was in about a 30 degree right evasive turn. I called ATC to report, and they said that the other aircraft had no transponder return. We did not have TCAS installed. No passenger were injured and none of them noticed the encounter, as the pushover was a smooth one. I later phoned ATC and reported the incident to mr. Y (ATC). I also filled out a report for the company and the FAA. ATC was unable to track the other aircraft. Our aircraft continued to dtw and landed operations normal.

Title: LGT ON CLIMBOUT HAS NMAC WITH SMA.
Narrative: WE WERE CLBING TO 10000', THROUGH 7500' (250 KTS), HDG 340 DEGS TO INTERCEPT THE LGA 322 DEG R TO NEON INTXN. THE F/O WAS FLYING THE ACFT BY HAND. WE HAD JUST BEEN GIVEN AN ATC FREQ CHANGE AND I HAD LOOKED DOWN TO CHANGE IT. AS I LOOKED UP, BOTH THE F/O AND I SIMULTANEOUSLY SAW A BLUE AND WHITE SMA AT APPROX 11:30, SLIGHTLY HIGH, AT ABOUT 300-400'. WE BOTH INITIATED A GENTLE PUSHOVER TO MAINTAIN ALT SEP. THE OTHER ACFT HAD EVIDENTLY SEEN US, AS HE WAS IN ABOUT A 30 DEG RIGHT EVASIVE TURN. I CALLED ATC TO RPT, AND THEY SAID THAT THE OTHER ACFT HAD NO XPONDER RETURN. WE DID NOT HAVE TCAS INSTALLED. NO PAX WERE INJURED AND NONE OF THEM NOTICED THE ENCOUNTER, AS THE PUSHOVER WAS A SMOOTH ONE. I LATER PHONED ATC AND RPTED THE INCIDENT TO MR. Y (ATC). I ALSO FILLED OUT A RPT FOR THE COMPANY AND THE FAA. ATC WAS UNABLE TO TRACK THE OTHER ACFT. OUR ACFT CONTINUED TO DTW AND LANDED OPS NORMAL.
