Narrative:
30 mins after departing local airport (S50), experienced 80-90% power failure in cruise at 2200' MSL. Terrain was heavy forest. Checked mags, mixture and position of auxiliary tank fuel valve. All ok. Made forced landing in muddy field. Right medium large transport support weakened when right gear contacted fence post on short final. Gear held until almost stopped (about 200' rollout), then collapsed. Damage: bent propeller (low RPM on engine) right gear, right wing tip and outboard wing rib, compression strut, rudder (lower edge bend--minor damage). Preflight routine--nothing seen in fuel. No water or foreign matter! After accident very small particles seen in suspension , light (actually transparent). Fuel screen had gray mud-like material on it--might be aluminum oxide. Larger particles which were not in preflight ample taken found in carburetor bowl. Might be rust. Suggest tank and carburetor bowl inspection as part of annual in older aircraft. This aircraft built 1946. Annual was completed 10.5 hours and 5 mins before accident.
