Narrative:
Returning from a x-country flight I contacted renton tower about 20 NM out and was told to report at the south tip of merler island (approximately 2 mi final). When I was about 6 mi out small aircraft reported inbound for landing about 2 mi to the east of me. Tower advised small aircraft I was inbound. Small aircraft advised they had me in sight and that they would follow me. Since there were several airplanes in the pattern and several other inbound from the south, I reported my position at the sawmill which is 1-2 mi north of the south tip of merler island and was sequenced for landing. At about 2 mi out an aircraft was in position and holding on runway 15. Between 1-2 mi out small aircraft called the tower and requested a 360 degree turn to maintain sep. Tower responded by telling small aircraft to s-turn. At about 1 mi I heard the transmission small aircraft is landing. I looked to my right and saw small aircraft overtaking me about 1000' abeam and 50-100' below. I called the tower and told them I was going around. Traffic on the runway took off, small aircraft went around to the right of runway 15, and I did a low approach. Tower then rted small aircraft and myself on right downwinds for landing.

Narrative: RETURNING FROM A X-COUNTRY FLT I CONTACTED RENTON TWR ABOUT 20 NM OUT AND WAS TOLD TO RPT AT THE S TIP OF MERLER ISLAND (APPROX 2 MI FINAL). WHEN I WAS ABOUT 6 MI OUT SMA RPTED INBND FOR LNDG ABOUT 2 MI TO THE E OF ME. TWR ADVISED SMA I WAS INBND. SMA ADVISED THEY HAD ME IN SIGHT AND THAT THEY WOULD FOLLOW ME. SINCE THERE WERE SEVERAL AIRPLANES IN THE PATTERN AND SEVERAL OTHER INBND FROM THE S, I RPTED MY POS AT THE SAWMILL WHICH IS 1-2 MI N OF THE S TIP OF MERLER ISLAND AND WAS SEQUENCED FOR LNDG. AT ABOUT 2 MI OUT AN ACFT WAS IN POS AND HOLDING ON RWY 15. BTWN 1-2 MI OUT SMA CALLED THE TWR AND REQUESTED A 360 DEG TURN TO MAINTAIN SEP. TWR RESPONDED BY TELLING SMA TO S-TURN.
