Narrative:
Approach control cleared our flight for a visibility approach to 25R, to follow xx airline's flight. Upon turning final, about 7 mi out, xx slowed drastically, causing our aircraft to pass their aircraft. Upon realizing I could not follow xx, but was passing it I notified ATC lax tower of the situation and they advised there was no problem. Xx felt we could not have maintained visibility sep as we turned final 'wing up,' but we maintained visibility contact and sep at all times. Although we slowed immediately to our final approach airspeed, we continued to maintain a lead on xx. To avoid this situation in the future, we will slow earlier and allow more space and room when cleared to follow another aircraft on a parallel visibility approach.
