Narrative:
We were departing bna at 5000' heading 250 degree. Controller gave us right turn to 020 degree but did not hear an altitude clearance so made turn level at 5000'. Going through heading of 340 degree, we got climb clearance to 12000'. Shortly thereafter controller gave us 'immediate right turn to 050 degree adn climb to 12000', traffic 12 O'clock at 5000'.' we were already in the turn so continued to 050 degree. We saw traffic visly and were well clear. Apparently controller meant for us to start climb to 12000' when given turn from 250 degree to 020 degree. Altitude clearance was not received or read back by us.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: ACR GIVEN TURN AND CLIMB CLRNC, MISSED THE CLIMB CLRNC, GIVEN CLIMB TWO MORE TIMES AND ANOTHER TURN FOR TRAFFIC. LESS THAN STANDARD SEPARATION OCCURRED.
Narrative: WE WERE DEPARTING BNA AT 5000' HDG 250 DEG. CTLR GAVE US R TURN TO 020 DEG BUT DID NOT HEAR AN ALT CLRNC SO MADE TURN LEVEL AT 5000'. GOING THROUGH HDG OF 340 DEG, WE GOT CLB CLRNC TO 12000'. SHORTLY THEREAFTER CTLR GAVE US 'IMMEDIATE R TURN TO 050 DEG ADN CLB TO 12000', TFC 12 O'CLOCK AT 5000'.' WE WERE ALREADY IN THE TURN SO CONTINUED TO 050 DEG. WE SAW TFC VISLY AND WERE WELL CLR. APPARENTLY CTLR MEANT FOR US TO START CLB TO 12000' WHEN GIVEN TURN FROM 250 DEG TO 020 DEG. ALT CLRNC WAS NOT RECEIVED OR READ BACK BY US.
