Narrative:
Just after T/D on runway 27 at Y31, a deer ran onto the runway and was struck by my aircraft. The resulting damage was not substantial and did not meet the accident reporting requirements of far 830. The deer was not killed in the incident. Y31 has been a problem airport for deer on the runway. In the last 4 months, our company aircraft have hit 2 deer. We have tried everything from making low passes before landing to firing noise makers from a shot gun at them. So far the best deterrent has been to have the local WX observer drive up and down the runway prior to our landing. This has a limited effect and is not always available. Our director of maintenance is currently looking in to mounting deer whistles on our gear doors.
