Narrative:
Aircraft was pushed off gate at ewr. The #1 engine was started. Ground personnel were cleared to disconnect headset and proceed to front of aircraft to marshall us out. Ground personnel signalled hold as more baggage was loaded. When the cargo door was closed, marshaller gave us all clear to taxi. We started our taxi and ran into the baggage cart. Apparently the tug stalled and was not yet clear of the aircraft. Also, the tug was not visible from the cockpit. Ground personnel had become complacent and cleared us to taxi before all ground equipment was clear of aircraft.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: ACR MLG FLT CREW HITS BAGGAGE CART ON INITIAL TAXI ALTHOUGH GIVEN THE ALL CLEAR BY GND PERSONNEL.
Narrative: ACFT WAS PUSHED OFF GATE AT EWR. THE #1 ENG WAS STARTED. GND PERSONNEL WERE CLRED TO DISCONNECT HEADSET AND PROCEED TO FRONT OF ACFT TO MARSHALL US OUT. GND PERSONNEL SIGNALLED HOLD AS MORE BAGGAGE WAS LOADED. WHEN THE CARGO DOOR WAS CLOSED, MARSHALLER GAVE US ALL CLR TO TAXI. WE STARTED OUR TAXI AND RAN INTO THE BAGGAGE CART. APPARENTLY THE TUG STALLED AND WAS NOT YET CLR OF THE ACFT. ALSO, THE TUG WAS NOT VISIBLE FROM THE COCKPIT. GND PERSONNEL HAD BECOME COMPLACENT AND CLRED US TO TAXI BEFORE ALL GND EQUIP WAS CLR OF ACFT.
