Narrative:
I taxied 3 aircraft onto runway 14 (position and hold). I mistakenly cleared the middle small aircraft Y for takeoff thinking it was the #1 small aircraft X. Attempts to cancel the takeoff clearance were not acknowledged. Small aircraft Y, #2, departed passing approximately 500' above small aircraft X still holding on the runway. Putting aircraft of the same type, west/O distinguishing markings on the runway at the same time greatly increases the odds of this occurrence and is not something I will do again.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: SMA Y TKOF ON OCCUPIED RWY HAD LESS THAN STANDARD SEPARATION FROM SMA X. SYSTEM ERROR. PLTDEV.
Narrative: I TAXIED 3 ACFT ONTO RWY 14 (POS AND HOLD). I MISTAKENLY CLRED THE MIDDLE SMA Y FOR TKOF THINKING IT WAS THE #1 SMA X. ATTEMPTS TO CANCEL THE TKOF CLRNC WERE NOT ACKNOWLEDGED. SMA Y, #2, DEPARTED PASSING APPROX 500' ABOVE SMA X STILL HOLDING ON THE RWY. PUTTING ACFT OF THE SAME TYPE, W/O DISTINGUISHING MARKINGS ON THE RWY AT THE SAME TIME GREATLY INCREASES THE ODDS OF THIS OCCURRENCE AND IS NOT SOMETHING I WILL DO AGAIN.
