Narrative:
Air carrier a flight 123 and air carrier B flight 123 were ont he same route form ord to lax. Although the controllers were excellent about notifying us of each other's presence, there were still times when it was difficult to tell which clearance was for which aircraft. There should be enough flight #south to go around to prevent this duplication of call sign on identical rtes.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: 2 DIFFERENT ACR'S ON SAME ROUTE WITH EXACTLY THE SAME FLT #.
Narrative: ACR A FLT 123 AND ACR B FLT 123 WERE ONT HE SAME RTE FORM ORD TO LAX. ALTHOUGH THE CTLRS WERE EXCELLENT ABOUT NOTIFYING US OF EACH OTHER'S PRESENCE, THERE WERE STILL TIMES WHEN IT WAS DIFFICULT TO TELL WHICH CLRNC WAS FOR WHICH ACFT. THERE SHOULD BE ENOUGH FLT #S TO GO AROUND TO PREVENT THIS DUPLICATION OF CALL SIGN ON IDENTICAL RTES.
