Narrative:

Fay approach cleared me to enter left base runway 4 and turned me over to tower. I contacted tower and announced entering left base runway 4. Tower cleared me to land on runway 4. Another aircraft was in the process of a missed approach runway 22. As I was turning final for runway 4, tower diverted me to runway 28. The pattern for 28 was normal. Tower instructed me to hold short runway 4-22. On final tower cleared me to cross 4-22 with no reply necessary. The landing appeared normal until I realized on T/D that I had failed to lower the landing gear. The landing was soft, which prevented possible breakup or fuel line rupture. I believe there were 2 reasons for the problem: I had taken my flight training at fay and for 16 months there I flew fixed gear. I was comfortable flying into fay and evidently flew the approach, pattern and landing as I had done at fay west/O concern for lowering the gear. If the tower had been more observant, they would have noticed that my gear was not down and could have warned me. They had more than normal time to observe my aircraft because of the diversion and the airport was not busy at the time. If I had practiced solo touch and go's at greenville before starting my x-country flight in this aircraft, I would have been better prepared.

Title: GEAR UP LNDG IN SMA.

Narrative: FAY APCH CLRED ME TO ENTER LEFT BASE RWY 4 AND TURNED ME OVER TO TWR. I CONTACTED TWR AND ANNOUNCED ENTERING LEFT BASE RWY 4. TWR CLRED ME TO LAND ON RWY 4. ANOTHER ACFT WAS IN THE PROCESS OF A MISSED APCH RWY 22. AS I WAS TURNING FINAL FOR RWY 4, TWR DIVERTED ME TO RWY 28. THE PATTERN FOR 28 WAS NORMAL. TWR INSTRUCTED ME TO HOLD SHORT RWY 4-22. ON FINAL TWR CLRED ME TO CROSS 4-22 WITH NO REPLY NECESSARY. THE LNDG APPEARED NORMAL UNTIL I REALIZED ON T/D THAT I HAD FAILED TO LOWER THE LNDG GEAR. THE LNDG WAS SOFT, WHICH PREVENTED POSSIBLE BREAKUP OR FUEL LINE RUPTURE. I BELIEVE THERE WERE 2 REASONS FOR THE PROB: I HAD TAKEN MY FLT TRNING AT FAY AND FOR 16 MONTHS THERE I FLEW FIXED GEAR. I WAS COMFORTABLE FLYING INTO FAY AND EVIDENTLY FLEW THE APCH, PATTERN AND LNDG AS I HAD DONE AT FAY W/O CONCERN FOR LOWERING THE GEAR. IF THE TWR HAD BEEN MORE OBSERVANT, THEY WOULD HAVE NOTICED THAT MY GEAR WAS NOT DOWN AND COULD HAVE WARNED ME. THEY HAD MORE THAN NORMAL TIME TO OBSERVE MY ACFT BECAUSE OF THE DIVERSION AND THE ARPT WAS NOT BUSY AT THE TIME.
