Narrative:
While landing on runway 22R at O'hare we forgot to switch to the tower frequency at the OM. Thinking we had switched frequencys to the tower, we asked for a wind check and the approach controller told us the wind which contributed to our erroneously thinking we had switched to the tower. We landed on runway 22R west/O incident and held short of runway 27R. At this time we noticed we were still on approach frequency and switched to tower. The tower cleared us to cross runway 27R and instructed us to switch to ground control with no mention of the frequency mix-up. Callback conversation with reporter revealed the following information. Callback conducted as part of structured callback on runway incursions. Reporter said that he usually turns on the outboard landing lights upon receiving landing clearance. The fact that his routine was, in some way, interrupted was exemplified by the fact that he did not turn on the landing lights in this circumstance. Reporter said that he couldn't remember any specific distraction or interruption.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: LGT FLT CREW FORGETS TO SWITCH TO TWR FREQ WHILE ON APCH INTO ORD, AND LANDS WITHOUT CLRNC.
Narrative: WHILE LNDG ON RWY 22R AT O'HARE WE FORGOT TO SWITCH TO THE TWR FREQ AT THE OM. THINKING WE HAD SWITCHED FREQS TO THE TWR, WE ASKED FOR A WIND CHK AND THE APCH CTLR TOLD US THE WIND WHICH CONTRIBUTED TO OUR ERRONEOUSLY THINKING WE HAD SWITCHED TO THE TWR. WE LANDED ON RWY 22R W/O INCIDENT AND HELD SHORT OF RWY 27R. AT THIS TIME WE NOTICED WE WERE STILL ON APCH FREQ AND SWITCHED TO TWR. THE TWR CLRED US TO CROSS RWY 27R AND INSTRUCTED US TO SWITCH TO GND CTL WITH NO MENTION OF THE FREQ MIX-UP. CALLBACK CONVERSATION WITH RPTR REVEALED THE FOLLOWING INFO. CALLBACK CONDUCTED AS PART OF STRUCTURED CALLBACK ON RWY INCURSIONS. RPTR SAID THAT HE USUALLY TURNS ON THE OUTBOARD LNDG LIGHTS UPON RECEIVING LNDG CLRNC. THE FACT THAT HIS ROUTINE WAS, IN SOME WAY, INTERRUPTED WAS EXEMPLIFIED BY THE FACT THAT HE DID NOT TURN ON THE LNDG LIGHTS IN THIS CIRCUMSTANCE. RPTR SAID THAT HE COULDN'T REMEMBER ANY SPECIFIC DISTR OR INTERRUPTION.
